Length: 5.6 miles plus 1 mile of trail in Elm Creek Park to get to the trailhead. There is an additional 2 miles of trail along the east bank of the Mississippi that connect to a path over the Mississippi via the Highway 610 bridge.
Difficulty: Easy to medium - the trail has no significant hills. There is a high bridge over US 169 plus a few busy roads to cross.
Popularity/Number of other users: Not very crowded.
Surface conditions: The trail has been recently rebuilt (as of June 2004), though there may be one or two breaks where construction is still in place.
Water: All three trail head facilities have water and permanent bathrooms.
Scenery: Good - The trees that were planted in the farm fields are starting to get large enough to look good.
From Oak Grove Park - Rocky Rococo - Great pizza, pathetic beer. South from the park entrance to Brooklyn Boulevard. East on Brooklyn Boulevard about a block. Restaurant is set back slightly on the left.
From Elm Creek Park - Many places on Elm Creek Blvd in Maple Grove
South on 81 to highway 30 (93rd Ave)
Turn right (west) on 30 (continue 1 mile)
Turn left (south) on Elm Creek Blvd
Many places 1-2 miles ahead.
Other nearby trails: On the south side of the park, there is a new trail that follows West River Road south for a few miles, then continues near city streets to connect to Northern Mississippi Regional Park. There are also connections to city and Three Rivers Park District trails in Brooklyn Park.
Comments: It is a nice skate to get to the dam over the Mississippi and Elm Creek Park.
